Many conferences for APL and J have been held by vendors and others over the years. These differ from user group meetups in that they are longer and generally feature a schedule of many presentations and sometimes workshops; typically conferences are less frequent and draw attendance from a wider region. Until about 2005 the APL conference was the major conference for APL users.
