'''APL ∊ BCN''' is a user group based in [[wikipedia:Barcelona|Barcelona]] started by [[User:Mlliarm|Michail Liarmakopoulos]] in late November 2021. Its activities are currently exclusively online due to the continuing impact of the [[wikipedia:COVID-19 pandemic|COVID-19 pandemic]], but plans exist for transitioning to regular physical meetups in Barcelona every four weeks, with additional online events ever two–three weeks.

It is the first user group based in a country where Spanish is the majority language, but meetings will be held in English to be as accessible as possible.


* After being extremely hooked with [https://aplwiki.com/wiki/Dyalog_APL Dyalog APL] and the awesome and super friendly APL community over [https://chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/52405/the-apl-orchard The APL Orchard] and [https://discord.gg/E3VddxFF The APL Farm], I've ([https://aplwiki.com/wiki/User:Mlliarm who?])  decided yesterday [[wikipedia:November_30|2021-11-30]] to create a community in [[wikipedia:Barcelona|Barcelona]].
== Goals ==
* It is, as far as I know, the first APL community all over [https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espa%C3%B1a España].
The group was founded with the goals of:
* The meetings will be in the [[wikipedia:English_language|English language]], so that everyone from this multicultural city will be able to take part, plus to better our English language skills.
* spreading knowledge of APL and the array family of programming languages.
* Until we're safe, all (3) meetings will take place online.
* spreading knowledge about [[Ken Iverson]] and other people involved in the development of APL.
* When this pandemic is over there will be one local (in Barcelona) meetup once per 4 weeks, and two more online meetups held every 2-3 weeks.
* sharing knowledge related to the intersection of mathematics and programming.
 
* fostering a friendly community of people interested in array programming.

* I firmly believe that the world '''must''' know of APL and the array family of programming languages. The time is ripe.
