Glyphs are the individual characters and symbols used in APL, primarily to represent primitive functions and operators.
Prior to the widespread adoption of [wikipedia:Unicode|], many special-purpose code pages were used to represent APL symbols (see Wikipedia: Digital encoding of APL symbols).
